Hawke's Bay District Health Board (HBDHB) is responsible for funding and providing public health services to a population of 165,000 with 3200 staff through a service network that covers the east coast of the north island of New Zealand. 

Executive Director of Health Improvement & Equity: HBDHB seeks to appoint a strategic leader with population and public health improvement experience responsible for working collaboratively with multiple agencies leading the health systems response to improve health outcomes and reduce inequities within the community. The position will support the Chief Executive Officer on the interagency strategy, bringing together councils, MSD, education, iwi, that will allow for strong and positive relationships to be forged across the health sector and with wider external agencies.  The directorate will encompass Population Health, Pacific Health and Maori Health, Equity and intersectoral development.  This position will work closely with the Executive Director of Primary Care ensuring that the health teams across the sector make positive and sustainable health outcomes for our community. 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful applicant for this position will need:

  • Experience as a strategic health executive in leading complex change, specifically in population and public health care
  • A proven ability to inspire commitment and engagement and ability to build a culture that embraces value, high performance and a system approach to best practice
  • Proven track record of working at a strategic level, leading complex, politically sensitive, contentious and high profile transformational changes in a large organisation and across organisations
  • Superior communication skills, written and oral, with a proven ability to build effective and positive relationships
  • Managing multiple tasks and demands in a timely manner, can marshal resources (people, funding, material, support) and establishes clear directions
  • Health management tertiary qualifications/ Masters' Degree or equivalent in public health and/or professional qualification
